Harrisburg--Continuing its product/market diversification program, AMP Incorporated last week acquired substantially all of the business and assets of Elf Atochem Sensors, Inc., a subsidiary of Elf Atochem North America, Inc. The Sensors operation is the leading manufacturer of piezoelectric and pyroelectric polymer transducers used in a wide range of industrial applications as accelerometers, switch and impact sensors, traffic monitors, passive infrared products, ultrasound probes, and actuators. Elf Atochem North America, a $1.7 billion French-owned chemicals manufacturer, decided to sell the Sensors operation to someone in the electronics industry with manufacturing and engineering capabilities better positioned to support Sensors' rapid growth.
