Another major expansion is in the works for America Online's Dulles campus.
Sources familiar with AOL Time Warner say the online and media giant plans to add two buildings totaling 400,000 square feet to its 100-acre campus in Loudoun County. That could result in 1,200 to 1,400 new AOL jobs in Virginia - a welcome notion as layoffs continue to hit many local Internet and telecom -related firms.
The New York-based company (www.aoltimewarner.com) is expected to submit plans for two new "creative centers" in Loudoun later this year, sources say. The plans come as AOL puts the finishing touches on a multibuilding expansion comprising two office buildings and a child care center.
The new creative centers likely will be similar in size to existing buildings at the campus, which are usually about 200,000 square feet each and house between 600 and 700 employees.
