Thomson COO Jim Meyer proclaimed "Divx is going to happen" in announcing plans to deliver the first RCA DVD players with the controversial pay-per-play feature behind a major advertising and promotional program this summer.
Meanwhile, the Divx company announced the beginning of its twocity initial launch June 8 at Circuit City stores in Richmond, Va., and at Circuit City and The Good Guys stores in San Francisco.
The first Divx player is a ZenithInteq model (499 retail), and approximately 42 Divx movie discs were available by the end of the first week. Divx said it expects to add about 50 titles per month, reaching more than 150 titles at national rollout later this year. The number of titles is expected to grow to 400 by the end of Divx's first year.
