Woodcliff Lake, N.J. -- Ascom Timeplex, Inc. last week began fleshing out its recently delivered Synchrony product line with new feeder devices and the addition of a switch that includes the company's Express Routing option.
The new ST-1000 is a version of the original Synchrony switch, the ST-50, outfitted with the Express Routing feature that has been available for some time in the Ascom Timeplex router line.
The Synchrony platform uses a feature called Express Switching to combine frame switching for LAN traffic with time-division multipler (TDM)-based bandwidth management features for circuit-switched traffic such as voice, video and legacy data protocols. This hybrid approach mixes frame and TDM traffic over T-1 lines for maximum bandwidth efficiency and application performance, according to the company.
Express Routing further enhances legacy protocol support by assigning quality-of-service levels to each datastream. A file transfer will not hog bandwidth and cause a Systems...
