Abstract
When members of the committee behind ASHRAE Standard 90.2-2007 Energy-Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings met on June 28, many were taken aback when they listened to member Tom Meyer speak about his experiences abroad in recent months. At first, he spoke very succinctly about the project that sent him and Wayne Reedy to Kuwait University where they presented a series of five-day courses on an energy standard they had just helped to author. The Kuwaiti standard became the topic of conversation for the next 30 minutes, a source of curiosity for some, but frustration for others in the room, who objected on principle to some of the adaptations and allowances within the standard. Meyer said that a disclaimer on the document's front cover specifies that the standard had not been approved through the same process as ASHRAE Standard 90.2, which is approved by the American National Standards Institute.
