AT&T's (T) WorldNet ISP yesterday rolled out an instant- messaging client to bridge the no-man's land between AOL's (AOL) Instant Messanger and Microsoft's (MSOFT) MSN Messenger. WorldNet says its I M Here service, based on the venerable PowWow Net-cruising software from Tribal Voice, will seamlessly connect to the messenger of both rivals. AOL and Microsoft spent much of the year in an escalating standards fight over instant messaging, trying to lock out each other's users. They've since retreated into fuzzy support for open standards. The I M Here client will allow customers to use one "buddy list" with entries from either competitor, according to WorldNet. "The Internet is no place for artificial communications boundaries," said WorldNet VP and General Manager Ed Chatlos.
