BASKING RIDGE, NJ--AT&T, in response to customer demand for multiples of T1, has launched fractional T45 (T3) at speeds of 4.6, 6.2, 7.7, and 10.8 Mbps. Availability is slated for March 1993, pending the outcome of customer trials that began in December. The mar- ket is private networks requiring expanded bandwidth for LAN-to-LAN interconnect, imaging, and CAD/CAM, and, according to AT&T, the rrew service is "well suited to multimedia applications that use integrated voice, data, and image Fractional T45 will be installed, managed, and maintained by AT&T as a single integrated unit, rather than as multiple 1.5 Mbps circuits. According to Hemant Vaidya, division manager for ACCUNET Digital High Capacity Products, this approach permits quicker installation and faster restoration in the event of facility failure as well as eliminating the bit stream transmission delays that occur when using unintegrated groups of T1 circuits.
