Bill Wessel, a New Orleans attorney for Garibaldi and Samuel, will announce his candidacy soon for New Orleans mayor, spokesperson Harry Connick Sr. said this afternoon.Right now what we are doing is getting organized, said Connick, former New Orleans district attorney who said he is friends with Wessel.Connick said a formal announcement will be made by Jan. 31. A party for Wessel has been scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at The Foundry, 333 St. Joseph St. The event is not a fundraiser.Wessel graduated from Loyola University and Tulane Law School, Connick said.Wessel was the first assistant in the district attorney's office, serving from 1974 to 1977, Connick said.
