If you have ever needed to verify the technical characteristics of your audio-equipment or signal path, you may have needed reliable measurement instruments in which you could trust. The accuracy of your measurements is determined by your ability to apply the technologies involved and by the accuracy of your audio test instruments.
The world of professional audio has greatly benefited in recent years from the ability to use low-end audio equipment to achieve "the big sound" which can compete admirably with the more expensive tools used by larger budget facilities. When making audio measurements, it is much harder to fake accuracy with low-end test equipment. A near accurate measurement is not accurate and can thereby defeat the purpose.
About a decade and a half ago, a group of talented engineers and designers left the audio design department of Tektronix Instruments to form Audio Precision Inc. Their premier product, the System One, raised the worldwide standards for audio measurements to a new level of accuracy, precision and ease of use. That initial offering has been followed by newer models. The System Two improved upon performance and added new digital functions. Both these systems consist of a rack-mountable chassis containing the hardware and firmware for the instruments with a computer port for connecting a PC computer for user interface. The Portable One brings many of the capabilities of these larger models to a convenient self-contained portable case. At the recent AES convention in San...
