Abstract

Autodesk's AutoCAD Release 13 (R13) is reviewed. Release 13 is an incremental step toward an entirely new AutoCAD, one with modern object-oriented underpinnings and inherently extensible architecture. The new R13 program architecture is significantly more resource hungry than previous versions. Autodesk recommends a 486 or Pentium computer - and specifically recommends not running R13 on a 386 computer of any type. Release 13's new Multiline text object features word wrap, flexible text alignment, bold and italic, underscoring and overscoring, fonts, text, height, and color. R13 incorporates changes to existing commands. The trim and extend commands, for example, can use text, regions, and splines as edges. It can also use implied or projected edges and boundaries. In addition, any 2 lines that intersect in 3D space can now undergo a fillet operation.
