Major announcements sharpen competitive edges for some leading software and hardware companies.
Autodesk entered into a definitive agreement on August 20 to acquire Discreet Logic and integrate its product line into Autodesk's Kinetix division. The new business unit will become known as Discreet and be headquartered in Montreal. Discreet Logic President Richard Szalwinski will essentially continue in his role, reporting to Autodesk President and COO Eric Herr. In San Francisco, Kinetix' VP Jim Guerard will join Discreet's senior management team and head up a New Media Group, which will market and develop products from both Kinetix and Discreet.
