By Terry UlrickButler & Tanner, the Somerset-based book printer with designs on the quality commercial colour market, is spending #6m this year to add to capacity and to further advance its large format policy.KBA UK is again the main beneficiary having just installed the UK's first KBA 105 six-colour press with coater at B & T's Weston- super-Mare B1 subsidiary, Lawrence-Allen. And now the German press manufacturer, which has a lockhold on the large format sheetfed market, is supplying a top-of-the range 7B-size six-unit Rapida for B & T.When B & T announced its sales and marketing attack on the colour commercial sector and so extolling the advantages of its Rapida 1620x1200mm sheet size, there were both cynics and critics.B & T is now, however, justifying the venture with considerable success in the catalogue and report and accounts sectors and in July this year received the accolade of being voted Printing World's Catalogue & Brochure Printer of the Year at the industry's major awards ceremony in London. The company is sufficiently encouraged to be adding another sales representative to its sales team specialising in commercial work. The 7B Rapida will be B & T's fifth consecutive KBA press and will be installed during October this year. The #6m spend includes the two new presses, plus the recently installed Creo VLF ctp system with its Prinergy front-end. The new big Rapida will come with CIP3 interface and Densitronic colour density control.B & T joint managing director Peter Maunder stresses the importance of the investment for the whole group. He adds: "As we continue to expand our catalogue and brochure customer base, we need to provide additional high-quality capacity with more flexibility on colour and coating."
