Whether you're peddling peanuts in Petersburg, searching for sterling in St. Louis, or bidding on bicycles in Baden-Baden, chances are good that your bank's services are bolstering your buying power and are conveniently close at hand.
Through the PLUS and CIRRUS worldwide automatic teller networks, travelers around Alaska, around the nation and around the world have ready access to cash when it's needed. Just reach for your ATM card, slip it into a nearby machine, and voila--instant cash to pay your bill.
National Bank of Alaska has ATMs in most of the major hubs and sub-hubs around Alaska, according to Ben Barrera, vice president and manager of the bank's corporate relations department. "We have ATMs in Nome, Kotzebue, Barrow, Unalakleet, and, of course, all across the Southeast," Barrera said.
Cheri Gillian, vice president of marketing for the First National Bank of Anchorage, said First National's ATMs, already spread from Juneau to Fairbanks and points in between, are beginning to show up in many of the state's rural communities, too.
Under a recent agreement with Alaska Commercial Co., First National already has installed two machines in AC stores, one in Kotzebue and another in Togiak, and has an ambitious schedule to get 15 more ATMs in before December. These machines will be available for business travelers in small communities such as Emmonak, Aniak, and Kotlik. Those machines are added to another of First National's recent additions--in Haines at the terminus of the state's ferry system.
Although Denali State Bank in Fairbanks has no ATMs of its own, it does offer an Alaska Option ATM card, which operates on the PLUS national and international network, according to Melissa King, new accounts specialist.
Bank of America and Key Bank spread their ATMs outside the state as well as in. Betty Riess, vice president and public relations manager for BofA said her bank has more than 6,800 ATMs throughout 10 western states and in Illinois, and Key Bank counts ATMs in 14 states.
