Bill Windle brought Maxus Construction back from the brink of liquidation.
Promoted to president in 1996 following a split between founding partners, Windle has restored much of the general contractor's former prominence. Maxus - recognized before the split and subsequent dismissal of most of its work force as the nation's second fastest-growing commercial builder and among the area's largest private firms - is expanding once again.
The company received an Honorable Mention in Birmingham Business journal's 2002 Entrepreneur Awards contest.
Windle, 42, holds a bachelor's degree in building science from Auburn University He spent several years as an estimator at Doster Construction Co. Inc. and as a project manager at Hoar Construction LLC before joining Maxus in 1988.
