Abstract
AFS Corporate Member Benton Foundry of Benton PA will be expanding its iron casting operations over the next three years, creating at least 40 new jobs, according to an announcement from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. Roughly 80,000 sq.ft. of manufacturing space will either be added, replaced or repurposed in the $21 million investment. The expansion will begin this summer 2020 and focuses on the foundry's core room and cleaning and finishing areas. According to Benton Foundry president Jeffrey Hall, the plan for the core room is to streamline operations, add capabilities, and design-protect for future resin systems and alternative materials. The expansion will increase capacity from 5,000 tons of core per year to 10,000 tons.
