After 60 years of successful operation in Houston, family-owned Bering's hardware is hammering out details to branch out into San Antonio through acquisition.
Bering's, an upscale hardware store founded in Houston in 1940, is nearing a deal to purchase the 54-year-old Scrivener's hardware store, which operates with a similar concept serving the well-heeled in San Antonio. The deal is expected to close before May 31.
Bering's president Norman Bering, who would not disclose the purchase price of Scrivener's, says the family plans to change the name of Scrivener's to Bering's once a remodel and remerchandising effort is completed this summer.
