Whatever happened to "hugs not drugs"?
Two 8th graders at Tempe, Arizona's Connolly Middle School were sentenced to 10 days of campus probation and three days of counseling intervention recently. Their infraction? Collin Neal and Jessamy Benington shared a friendly hug in the hallway before heading off to team practices.
"There are other kids who get in fights and get away with way more, and all I did was give her a hug," Neal told the Arizona Republic. "I think what they could have done is warn me and said, 'You can't give her a hug."'
But that wouldn't have been reasonable. After all, the student handbook expressly states that "Students may NOT hold hands nor demonstrate other outward displays of affection such as kissing, hugging or embracing." Rules are rules, after all. Even idiotic ones.

Eleven kids were suspended from Florida's Mandarin Middle School recently for losing consciousness on purpose, the Jacksonville Times-Union reports. Basically, the kids held their breath until they passed out. "The only thing I can remember as a teen fad was going around in circles and getting dizzy," said local PTA President Brenda Hall. "That was the weird thing to do. It is scary they would be looking for this for a rush."
At least he didn't hold his breath or give anyone a hug
