For Winnipeg entrepreneur Bill Moorby, "bigness" is not necessarily greatness. That statement is somewhat ironic, because Moorby is president of Canada West Shoe Manufacturing, the largest manufacturer of western-style boots in Western Canada.
The irony becomes even greater when one realizes that Moorby is expounding his modest philosophy from the company's 34,000 square feet of headquarters in the heart of Inkster Industrial Park.
Canada West arose 10 years ago from the ashes of Greb Shoes which closed its Winnipeg operation. At that time, Greb's highly skilled shoe workers were available to start a new company.
Moorby, who was working at Greb's Kitchener, Ontario office moved back to Winnipeg along with a few other Greb executives; secured the financing, (much of which came from employees who still own shares in their company), and started a new business. Within a couple...
