Construction is scheduled to begin this summer on an $8 million addition to Bloomingdale's store in White Plains, following approval of plans by the city's Common Council.
The council on May 5 approved the 40,000-square-foot addition to be built behind the existing 260,000-square-foot Bloomingdale's. The new space, as well as renovations to the existing store, will take up to 18 months to complete, said Bernard Reiss, operative vice president for Federated Department Stores Inc., the Cincinnati, Ohio-based owner of Bloomingdale's.
Bloomingdale's representatives said the store sought the expansion in order to remain competitive with other stores in the upscale Bloomingdale Road shopping corridor--especially The Westchester mall and Saks Fifth Avenue, which has proposed a $65 million renovation of its store along with an adjacent 155,356 square feet of space for up...
