Blue Sky is a relatively new name in the audio industry, but their self-powered monitors have been drawing a lot of attention, especially in the world of audio post-production. Their System One THX certified packages have been installed in many top post-production facilities. The new Blue Sky ProDesk 2.1 and 5.1 packages are a scaled down version of their predecessors. The 2.1 configuration was tested for this review.
According to Blue Sky, the aptly named ProDesk series was designed as a monitoring solution for smaller studios and video post-production settings. The satellite speakers are definite space savers, while the larger sub can be easily tucked under a console or desk. The satellite monitors feature a 5.25-inch speaker and a.75-inch tweeter while the sub houses an 8-inch speaker. The speakers are all self-powered, the satellites are bi-amped at 60 by 60 watts and the sub at 100 watts. So while they are small, they definitely have some weight to them.
The first thing I noticed upon opening the boxes was how cool the satellites looked. The silver/gray enclosure and the aluminum alloy one-piece cone with no dust cap definitely grab your attention.
