Tig Krekel's tenure as president of Boeing Satellite Systems Inc. ended abruptly yesterday only six months after the former Hughes Space and Communications unit was acquired by The Boeing Co. (BA) last October.
His immediate successor is Randy Brinkley, who was elevated to acting president from his post as Boeing Satellite's senior vice president of programs.
Krekel joined Hughes Space as president and CEO in January 1999 and retained the top job at the business unit now owned by Boeing until his abrupt departure yesterday along with Joe DeSarla, a Boeing Satellite Systems executive vice president.
Both Krekel and DeSarla will "pursue other opportunities," according to a Boeing news release. Each of them will be on special assignment during a transition period to support Jim Albaugh, president of the Boeing Space & Communications Group and a senior vice president of The Boeing Co. on business and program-related studies.
