The Boffin KwikDisc is a well-built but flawed unit. It flunked four out of five NetWare compatibility tests, and it costs $2,000 more than the Procom DataForce 110, which was faster and didn't pose any compatibility issues. Even without the compatibility problems, you have to ask why you would want to pay more for this unit. To be sure, its 36 GB of storage puts this product in a class by itself on that score, but hard drives aren't that expensive, and you can add storage to any of the units we tested.
Of the five NetWare tests, the KwikDisc was able to complete only one. This is a serious issue for NetWare shops. After installing InfoPedia from the CD, the client computer wasn't able to recognize the program as a valid Win32 program. This was a repeatable error that affected only the NetWare clients.
The KwikDisc was unable to perform a root mapping of the ChronoMaster CD, and the CD would only run if root-mapped. With "The Way Things Work" CD, the installation completed successfully, but afterward the program couldn't find the CD again.
As we mentioned above, installing Corel's WordPerfect Office Suite 8.0 was problematic for all but Procom's DataForce 110....
