Mayor Tom Dale hopes that Nampans - faced with a welter of primary candidate yard signs, billboards and mailers - will remember to vote yes in the May 25 bond election.
The outcome will determine the fate of road projects on Garrity Boulevard and Kings Corner, as well as water and sewer projects that could improve Nampa's economic viability.
Infrastructure for any expanding city is critical, he said in an interview. Residents have criticized the city for not planning out far enough, especially with traffic, he added, and it's a challenge to anticipate needs before you get into a crisis situation.
Dale, who served in Nampa's city council for six years before defeating incumbent Mayor Maxine Horn in a runoff election in December 2001, said citizens were very involved in identifying needs, and it was with input from residents and Nampa businesses that the city prioritized and designed projects.
If the bond passes, the city will have funds to widen Garrity Boulevard, build railroad overpasses at Kings Road and Amity Avenue, and extend water and sewer service to unserved north Nampa areas, particularly in the area around...
