Upholstery and carpet samples fill the third floor on the north end of the Mansion House Center downtown. An array of floor coverings and cabinet finishes hang on the wall. If not for a collection of desks and drafting tables, the room could be mistaken for an interior design studio.
Instead, it's a classroom at Patricia Stevens College, one of the region's career schools. Today, interior design courses are the most popular, drawing 40 percent of the 125 students, said Cindy Musterman, owner, chief executive and dean of students.
She bought the business in 1999 from William Bradshaw and his family. He's still president and chief financial officer. The school generated $1.1 million in revenue last year.
