Note: BOX will migrate matching engine to Equinix facility where ISE and c2 are located, taking advantage of cross-connects of market participants there.
In a move to increase capacity and upgrade its technology, the all-electronic Boston Options Exchange Group, LLC (BOX) has moved the all-electronic options exchange's operations to the Equinix NY4 International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Box is targeting an April 26th launch date for going live with its ultra-fast matching engine in the new data center.
According to BOX SVP Alan Grigoletto, the exchange's matching engine is currently at Level 3's data center in Newark, New Jersey, and is scheduled to move to Equinix's data center facility in Secaucus where several other exchanges, including the International Securities Exchange (ISE) and c2, the new all electronic exchange being launched as a subsidiary of CBOE, are both housed.
While the new location of Equinix's data center in Secaucus is closer to exchanges located in New York City, Grigoletto indicated this was not a factor. "The move had more to do with capacity, meaning how much power would be available for NY4 and also to get into the NY4 ecosystem," said Grigoletto in an interview with Wall Street & Technology.
