After 24 years as president of Iona College, Brother John G. Driscoll said he will not seek re-election to the post next June.
Brother James B. Moffett, C.F.C. and chairman of the college's board of trustees, said the board will appoint a search committee to review nominations and conduct interviews for the institution's seventh president.
Br. Driscoll's decision, disclosed at a recent meeting of the board, will bring to a close the tenure of the longest-serving president in the college's history. During his tenure, Br. Driscoll has overseen a remarkable change at Iona, turning the small, predominantly male, commuter school into a co-educational, college that is among the most academically demanding in the metropolitan area.
"The presidency of Iona College has been a position I have been proud to hold for the past 23 years," said Br. Driscoll. "We have worked hard and long to meet the challenges of change. We have taken the risks that naturally grow out of being inventive. We've had the pleasures of success and we have supported each other when we had to share disappointments.
