Lafarge North America, one of the largest ready-mix concrete suppliers in the United States, has sold its four concrete plants in the St. Louis area.
Breckenridge Material Co. of Webster Groves purchased Lafarge's Eureka, St. Charles and Jefferson County plants Sept. 6. Concrete Resources Inc. of Columbia, Ill., purchased the company's plant in Wentzville Sept. 7. None of the parties would disclose the sale prices of the properties. Andy Arnold, vice president and general manager of the Kansas City-based Missouri division of Lafarge, said the company laid off approximately 50 employees when it sold the four plants. But representatives of Local Union 682 said its drivers were laid off when the plants changed ownership, though approximately 18 of the teamsters were later re-hired by Breckenridge.
