The IntelliPower Bright-UPS IQ800 is a well-thought-out, feature-rich device. The product's design is fundamentally different and better than the other devices in this UPS roundup, while its engineering shows above-average attention to detail. The UPS' second-highest price coupled with only moderate uptime positioned it as the least cost-effective unit reviewed.
The IntelliPower IQ800 was the only online UPS reviewed. All the other UPSes are line-interactive devices. Online UPSes continually support the load from battery power, while line-interactive UPSes typically use battery power only when the utility voltage falls below a certain minimum. Therefore, interactive UPSes have an inherent delay in switching to battery power while online units do not.
