Ohio Operator Will Give Customers Extra Bandwidth
Buckeye CableSystem plans to offer extra bandwidth, when needed, to video-game players, movie lovers, photo enthusiasts and other customers who send or receive lots of data.
Today, Buckeye's Internet users subscribe to a specific level of service, which allows them to receive data at speeds no higher than 1.5 Megabits per second, 5 Mbps or 8 Mpbs, depending on what they have signed up for.
Buckeye could double or triple those speeds for short periods of time, though -- and charge extra for such a "turbo" feature --when it deploys new hardware and software from Marlborough, Mass.-based Camiant Inc. this summer.
