Take a simple hair adornment-say, a flower-and apply it to a commonplace hairstyle-say, a bun. In most cases, the average bun-with-blossom combination will result. But when artist Marc Lopez enters the picture, and he's creating a Seventies look inspired by Bianca Jagger for Missoni's spring 2008 collection (shown above), the result is much more captivating. "We're giving the illusion of wet hair-it's very shiny and watery-so it looks as though the girls are just coming out of the water." Why? "Well, it's the spring-summer collection, and wet hair is a summer look. It's just clean and shiny and sexy."
Many of the beauty looks created to complement spring's fashions follow in the same vein. A simple middle part styled by Guido Palau at Versace successfully lent itself to the sensual-yet-grounded collection there. "It's beautiful, rich, thick hair that was inspired by Lauren Hutton in the Seventies," says Palau.
At PPQ, slick, uberstraight ponytails were meant to convey strength, according to hairstylist Duffy, who secured hair high on the head with giant colored beads. "It's quite dressage," says Duffy of the horse-like tails.
