Software component and services provider ILOG Inc. is buying the intellectual property and other selected assets of the JLOOX visual application development product line from Engenuity Technologies Inc. for US$1.7 million. ILOG also will acquire the JLOOX customer base and prospects, as well as 10 Engenuity employees, who will work out of ILOG's offices in Gentilly, France. In addition, ILOG will enter into a three-year OEM agreement that will permit Engenuity to continue to use ILOG's visualization technology in its STAGE products. With the acquisition, ILOG hopes to strengthen its position in the graphical user display tools market, and round out its Jviews product line . . . FFE Software Inc. will reabsorb marketing subsidiary FirstSQL Inc. as part of a corporate reorganization. FirstSQL was created by FFE in 2002 to market FirstSOL/J, the company's Java database products. FirstSOL RDBMS was first released by FFE in 1989; the move is intended to show the company's focus on its flagship FirstSOL/J Enterprise and Professional editions , . . Data management vendor Versant Corp. will acquire FastObjects Inc., to complete a circle that was begun in 2002. At that time, Poet Holdings Inc., the original developer of FastObjects, spun off its operations to FastObjects Inc. but retained an equity stake in the company. In March of this year, Versant merged with Poet. The FastObjects acquisition is part of the process of integrating Versant's and Poet's businesses, the companies said in a statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
