BRIDGEPORT -- Well-known Westport entrepreneur Herman P. Taub, who put up the town's first commercial office building more than 20 years ago, last week filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition for one his ventures, BusinesServe Information Services Inc.
BusinessServe, located in the former Beverly Theater at 3029 Fairfield Ave. in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, provides support services for the small-business tenants.
Taub's landmark four-story office building on Franklin Street in Westport is near the train station.
BusinesServe filed for voluntary Chapter 11 reorganization Sept. 24 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Bridgeport, listing $5 million in assets and about $4 million in liabilities.
Of the debt listed, $3,015,000 is secured, according to court documents.
BusinessServe provided a 24-hour answering service, typing services, receptionist, copying and fax equipment and other pooled business support services for the Bridgeport tenants.
"It gave the small-business owner in the building the pooled office services of a bigger business at a more reasonable cost," said Taub's attorney, Mildred Bauza.
