PARKERSBURG--A panel of scientists released the results of three preliminary studies into the effects of C8 on humans, including a possible link to birth defects and preeclampsi a.
But they caution the public to not read too much into the results at this time.
C8 is a chemical that DuPont has used to make Teflon at its Washington Works in Wood County plant since the 1950s.
The three members of a court-appointed scientific panel released the results during a news conference March 26. The event was not open to the public.
The studies focused on three areas: the effects of CR exposure on pregnancy; the rate of C8 clearance from the human body; and the effects of CB on immune functions.
Preliminary results of the pregnancy study showed a possible link between exposure to C8 and birth defects, said David Savits of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, who is leading that study. But the results showed only a weak link,...
