Henry Samueli, the cofounder and chief technical officer of Broadcom Corp., is one of the few managers in the semiconductor industry who has had the challenge of managing growth-rapid growth-in recent years. The company has grown from $35 million to $100 million to $200 million, roughly, in three years.
Broadcom will face more competition this year in its core set-top-box and cablemodem IC businesses. Samueli said he believes home networking, at data rates of 10 Mbits/second, are a long-term growth opportunity for Broadcom.
