ROBINSON TOWNSHIP - Calgon Carbon Corp. is seeking state environmental clearance to build a new carbon reactivation service center in Louisiana.
The new facility, which would be built in the town of DeQuincy, fits the company's strategy of placing more emphasis on becoming a service provider and expands its presence in the south, said Calgon Carbon spokeswoman Gail Gerono.
The Robinson Township-based maker of activated carbon and air and water purification technologies had scouted about 40 sites in Texas and Louisiana over the past two years.
It finally settled on the DeQuincy site, which would fill a void for reactivation services along the Gulf Coast, Ms. Gerono said. Calgon Carbon has six other carbon reactivation plants, but the closest to the new site is in Kentucky. It also operates a carbon production plant nearby in Mississippi.
