The carousel that ran indoors at the Edgewater Packing Co. on Steinbeck's Famous Cannery Row in Monterey, Calif., was sold on May 19 at auction by Norton Auctioneers. Eventually, it was sold intact for $161,150 to a private individual who is installing it in a custom built room in his home in Las Vegas. It was built by the Herschell-Spillman Merry-Go-Round Co. of Tonawanda, N.Y., in 1915. The 34 horses, two zebras, two chariots and frame were first sold individually for prices ranging from $2,500 to $5,500 each. The elements were then combined, 10% was added, and the machine was offered complete. - T.O.
