Canada yesterday ended months of speculation by choosing the GKN Westland-Augusta Cormorant, a variation of the EH-101, as the winner of an estimated $415 million contract for 15 search and rescue (SAR) helicopters.
The Cormorant was selected over Eurocopter's Cougar II, Boeing's {BA} CH-47 Chinook, and Sikorsky's {UTX} S-70A Maplehawk.
"Now, Canadians will have a helicopter that can do the job at a price they can afford," Canada's Minister of National Defense Art Eggleton said.
