Abstract
The Canadian Academy of Health Sciences was founded in 2004 as a non-profit, charitable organization that both honours excellence and provides advice. The Fellows are elected to the Academy by a rigorous peer-review process that recognizes demonstrated leadership, creativity, distinctive competencies and a commitment to advance academic health science. The Academy tackle complex problems related to health and the health care system that require careful and thoughtful analysis that is not only expert, but also unbiased and independent of vested interests and agendas. The process of the Academy's work is designed to assure appropriate expertise, the integration of the best science and the avoidance of bias and conflict of interest. While those organizations that sponsor assessments have input into framing the study question(s), they cannot influence the outcomes of an assessment or the contents of a report. Academy reports undergo extensive review and evaluation by external experts and final approval for release and publication of an Academy Report rests only with the Board of CAHS. (www.cahs-acss.ca)
