A Calgary company's freshly baked cinnamon rolls for sale on the shores of Peru's Lake Titicaca? It's improbable but not impossible, given the ambitious international marketing plans of Cinnaroll Bakeries Ltd.
Cinnaroll, which operates 25 Cinnzeo outlets with 450 employees in Western Canada selling fresh-baked cinnamon buns, also has 10 Cinnzeo franchises in the Philippines, with an additional 30 expected to open by 2002. In March, the Calgary company signed an agreement with an international franchisee that plans to open 50 more Cinnzeos throughout Southeast Asia. Most recently, there have been inquiries about franchises from South America and Australia. Also on the books is expansion into Eastern Canada and the U.S. Says Cinnaroll president and CEO Barry Latham: "We're not ruling out any area of the world."
This kind of expansion resulted in revenues of $12 million in 1995, impressive numbers for a company founded only three years ago when Latham and partner Barry Wolton gave up their 18 Cinnabon franchises in...
