According to the IACP, 97% of all U.S. law enforcement agencies are now using oleoresin capsicum (OC) sprays as a non-lethal force alternative. The use of OC has significantly reduced injuries to suspects and officers. At the same time, liability lawsuits involving the use or misuse of OC sprays have increased, as have OC-related injuries to officers.
Zarc International, the company that introduced CAP-STUN OC to law enforcement in 1982, has introduced a new, standardized OC training program that is designed to enhance safety and effectiveness. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) are among the first U.S. agencies to receive the standardized OC training and certification from ZARC.
The ZARC CAP-STUN Certification Program is the first distance-learning OC certification program. The entire training package is delivered directly to the officer's door. The training kit includes a comprehensive, illustrated training manual, a high quality, professionally produced step-by-step training video, an audio CD, inert training canisters, nylon holster, aiming targets and a written certification exam.
The ZARC CAP-STUN self-study certification program is based on rapid training, eliminating the need for travel or taking time off. The program is designed to provide officers with detailed in information on OC sprays, their physiological effects, the appropriate circumstances and proper techniques under which to employ them, and the procedures to be followed after use. The multi-media approach has been designed to provide maximum retention of the material.
An advantage of self-study is that the officer proceeds at his own pace. The officer can read and review the manual, view the video, and listen to the audio CD as many times as is necessary to thoroughly grasp the material that's presented before taking the written examination.
