The editorial staff of Global Money Management has named Stephen Gosztony, senior vp. of Capital International in London, as Marketer of the Year. Gosztony, together with last year's runner-up James Stewart, was instrumental in growing the U.S. firms assets under management and wresting business away from major U.K. players. According to a London-based Capital International official, the firm in 1998 brought in US$4.5 billion of segregated accounts sourced in the U.K and US$1.2 billion from the Continent, up from US$2.5 billion of new business in 1997 (GMM, 25/5).
A strong element of Capital International's success has been the firms ability to handle customised benchmarks to which the construction of its portfolios is well suited. Gosztony was a prominent advocate of this approach that was well received...
