Richard Topping, the CEO of North Carolina-based Cardinal Innovations Healthcare, has been fired by the managed care company’s board of directors just weeks after seeing his salary cut by more than half.
Cardinal, which serves Medicaid enrollees with mental health issues, substance use disorders and complex health plans, has been under regulatory scrutiny for months, according to the Associated Press. In May, the North Carolina office of the State Auditor accused the company of spending excessively on executive salaries, conferences and Christmas parties.
