Very endemic to the vp/publisher/chief revenue officer (since June 2011), who was American Heritage publisher in the mid-1980s (an early stop in a spectacular career that led to Parenting founding publisher [1987] and Elle publisher/chief brand officer [2002-2010]). The two-minute video that Smith brings on sales calls celebrates Harper Bazaar's 145-year history (rival Vogue is 120 years old) with recognition of such great past editors as Carmel Snow/Diana Vreeland/Liz Tilberis as well as current editor-in-chief (since June 2001) Glenda Bailey. "This is not for nostalgia," says Smith, who is married to author and 1990-2007 AH editor-in-chief Richard Snow. "Through the precedents shown in the video, the marketplace is being informed of the value of our continuity. Designers are always looking for precedents that we established in making HB the preeminent upscale women's-fashion magazine."
