Century Theatres Inc. is making plans to build a 16-screen movie house in north Roseville.
The total project includes a 103-room hotel, three restaurants and a gas station, and it could get built sooner than the two downtown Sacramento theaters that Century has been working on since 2000 - a venture that might have gone dormant.
The new Placer County multiplex would be a 51,415-square-foot anchor tenant in a plaza at 10551 Fairway Drive, near Blue Oaks Boulevard and Highway 65. SyWest Developments of San Rafael sent its plans to the city last week.
If the Century Plaza project sails smoothly through city review, construction could start early next year, said Bill Vierra, president and chief operating officer of SyWest, the landdevelopment subsidiary of Syufy Enterprises. Syufy owns Century Theatres. All are based in San Rafael.
Century would own and operate the theater, and sell or lease the hotel and other sites. There is strong demand for the restaurant, gas station and hotel locations, Vierra said, although he wouldn't say who was interested.
Century already operates slightly less than half of the movie screens in the Sacramento area. Including...
