Storage VARs these days are feeling like kids in a candy storethere are so many different solutions available for their customers. One of the more established technologies that continues to offer great performance and value is Certance's LTO. Certance's newest iteration is its third-generation LTO3 technology, incorporated in the company's CL 800 LTO Ultrium 3 desktop device. The LTO3 technology uses an open format and is backward-compatible with LTO1 and LTO2 media, as well as media from Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
The Ultrium 3's native storage capacity is 400 Gbytes uncompressed and 800 Gbytes compressed. Although Super Advanced Intelligent Tape (SAIT) drives have the advantage of offering larger-capacity media, data-transfer rates for Certance's Ultrium 3 are much faster.
