Script (in Perl) doesn't do all that much (it recognizes whether the browser is of the Macintosh or Windows variety and what language it is using (but Rothenberg's relatively simple example gives the would-be CGI script-writer a good starting point for introducing dynamic elements into the design of a Web page. Behr explores the hardware and software products that allow you to send facsimile transmissions (an analog technology) over the Internet and corporate intranets. For those who need occasional Net faxing capabilities, but can't justify the investment, there's a directory of Internet service providers who offer fax services. Basch, the author of Secrets of the Super Net Searchers, takes a comprehensive look at a variety of tools and techniques for finding information online. First, she reviews the capabilities of a number of search engines and Web indexing sites, offering tips, cautions, and a rating for each one. She does the same for a handful of "metasearch agents" that let you formulate your search queries offline and then run them unattended in the background while you occupy yourself with some other task. Finally, she covers profile-based push technology and online services where specialists do your research for you.
