The departure of Armon Mills as publisher of the weekly business newspaper Silicon Valley Biz Ink has raised questions inside the business community about how the publication will fare without his charisma and contacts.
While present and past employees are confident Jim Evers - with Mr. Mills, a cofounder and investor in the publication - can ably succeed him as publisher, others say Mr. Mills is the public face of that three-and-a-half year old newspaper and that the startup has survived in an otherwise tough media market largely on his reputation.
Mr. Mills leaves Biz Ink May 1 to become publisher of the San Diego Business Journal, starting June 7. The San Diego paper is owned by CBJ Associates, which also owns three other southern California business weeklies. Biz Ink competes with The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, which is owned by American City Business Journals Inc., of Charlotte, N.C.
