CHAPEL HILL - A Florida developer is charging into North Carolina with plans to build at least three shopping centers with a total value of $30 million within the next 12 months.
Pointe Development of Miami, has joined forces with Blaine East and his Landcore LLC development company in Chapel Hill to build a 78,400-square-foot shopping center in Apex, a 20,600-square-foot center in Morrisville and a 24,500-square-foot center in Wilmington.
"Our goal is to do one project a month," says East, who hinted at other retail projects in the works in Raleigh and in Charlotte. "Retail has been hot around here and will stay hot for at least another three to five years."
The Apex project's rezoning was approved in December, and Apex Senior Planner Dianne Khin says many of the neighbors came out in support.
