1st Circuit. The Association for Continuing Legal Education presented Suffolk University Law Center with the Award for Professional Excellence in Public Interest, the association's highest award in that field. The award recognized the school's Center for Advanced Legal Studies for its Centennial Conference on International Human Rights, which addressed diverse legal topics such as human rights responsibilities of state and municipal officials and issues surrounding child sex trafficking.
2nd Circuit. The student team from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center advanced to the final round in the 15th annual Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria. Team members Lena Davydan, Matthew Moisan, and Aleksandr Bespalov placed second out of 204 teams comprising approximately 1,400 law students from more than 50 countries.
3rd Circuit. Villanova University School of Law's Clinic for Asylum, Refugee and Emigrant Services students Annie Krastek and Katie Germino won asylum for an Iraqi woman who served as a translator for the U.S. Army in Baghdad. The woman worked with the legal department of the 82nd Airborne and helped with injury claims brought by Iraqi citizens for reparations. She received death threats for working with U.S. troops. The students presented her case, and the Department of Homeland Security granted her asylum.
