Among the many dining traditions held by many of us, we like to explore neighborhoods with potentially interesting restaurants we don't know. This is motivated by Daylight Savings Time. When it's in force, we don't have to pick our way through dark streets. After more than five months of that caution, many of us get to work trying out all the little eating places in the darkness that we've heard about.
The most interesting of the 2018 crop of such places is a restaurant that is not new, but about 40 years old. Nor is it quaint or hard to find, but resembles the front of a plantation that stands out easily. Finally, The Country Club's chef has the credentials you'd expect from a graduate of Commander's Palace--which, in fact, is part of Chris Barbato's dossier.
WHY IT'S GOOD
Chef Chris Barbato's menu is based upon the current rebirth of American-style cooking. There's a mild touch of French bistro and Cajun food, too. And, finally, the millennial crowd will enjoy the degree to which one can build substantial meals from appetizers.
A friend joining me for dinner at the Club agreed that we liked the food that came, too....
